Infection/inflammation of upper female genital tract (endometrium, fallopian tubes, ovaries, adjacent structures), typically ascending from lower genital tract, most commonly Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae, also polymicrobial (anaerobes, Mycoplasma genitalium).
Significant fertility/chronic pain sequelae if untreated/delayed treatment.
