Colovaginal Fistula

A colovaginal fistula is an abnormal communication between colon and vagina. Diverticular sigmoid disease is a major cause, particularly in women who have previously undergone hysterectomy because the sigmoid can become adherent directly to the vaginal cuff.

Other causes include malignancy, inflammatory bowel disease and previous pelvic surgery or radiation.
